Our Founder:

Russell Reid Ortiz, is a former Major League baseball pitcher who has previously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles, and the Houston Astros. He and his wife, Stacy, reside in Mesa, AZ, with their children, Grace, Lilian and Hudson.  He graduated from Montclair Prep High School in Van Nuys, CA.  Ortiz attended the University of Oklahoma and helped the Sooners capture the 1994 College World Series Championship.  He was the recipient of the Giants’ 2001 & 2007 John Hancock Roberto Clemente Award for excellence in community service.  In 2002, he served as spokesperson for the YMCA’s “Building Futures” program, providing game tickets and hosting a monthly event for at-risk youth and their mentors.  He supported the San Francisco Food Bank by taping a radio PSA for the organization.  While with San Francisco, he participated in the Giants Wives’ post game auction and clinic to raise money for Junior Giants and Comfort for Kids, which provides medical care to children facing a life-threatening illness.  Russ acted as spokesman of the 1999 Resolve To Stop The Violence (RSVP) Day and participated in the Giants’ off-season Care-A-Van, visiting youth groups, schools and hospitals throughout Northern and Central California.  In 2005 Russ and his wife Stacy founded their own charity foundation to help those in need.  They created programs helping underprivileged students obtain the supplies needed for school, a book program to pay for student’s books for college, and a program to restore run-down and neglected homes in low income neighborhoods to help meet families basic shelter needs.  In addition to theses signature programs the Ortiz family also supports other charity’s endeavors throughout the community.

It is understanding the importance of giving and helping others that drives Kellie Green’s passion for the non-profit world.

I am very pleased to be a part of the Ortiz Family Foundation. It has always been my desire to have the ability and the resources to help those in need.  There are many charitable causes that touch my heart.  Devoting resources to just one cause would be an impossible decision for me, as all have equal importance to me.  When I met Russ and learned about the mission and goals of their foundation, I knew it was a perfect fit for me personally and professionally.~ Kellie Green

Kellie Green comes to us with a great knowledge of the non-profit world. Just prior to earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Business & Psychology from ASU in 2003, Kellie interned with the Best Buddies Arizona office. After her internship, Kellie continued to volunteer as an event coordinator for Best Buddies Arizona while assuming her duties for another non-profit, the Phoenix Girls Chorus. She joined the Best Buddies Arizona team as a full-time employee in January of 2005. It was through Russ’s involvement with Best Buddies, hosting the Celebrity Rock-N-Bowl Bash, that Kellie became involved with The Ortiz Family Foundation. After two years with Best Buddies Arizona, she joined the Ortiz Family Foundation team in October of 2006.
